Make Your Own Custom Handwriting Worksheets

020209-custom-handwriting

As a teacher, I noticed that very little time is allowed in the curriculum for handwriting (if any!), yet so many children continue to need practice.  It used to be that making worksheets to use at home involved either 1) pricey software or 2) writing the letters by hand, which was often time-consuming.

Now you can make handwriting practice sheets for free!  The best part is that you can customize the content to your child’s interests.  If you have a child with strong fixations and interests, then you know just how useful this feature can be.  These sites are great because all you have to do is fill in the blanks and they spit out a worksheet that you can print out and use.  No Photoshop or font skills needed!

Two sites I recommend are:

  • Handwritingworksheets.com: Offers three different options for print handwriting. The “hollow trace” is great for beginning writers with limited dexterity; let kids use crayons to make thick, colorful letters!
  • ESL Writing Wizard: You can have a different word on each line (to repeat one word for the whole page, see here).  Also great because you can select whether to make the word solid, dashed, or blank for practice.  (pictured above)
