Sometimes we aspies and auties can use a few tricks up our sleeves when it comes to preventing conflict. Real Simple has a list of 10 Things to Say to Keep the Peace that I find helpful because these statements can diffuse potential conflicts.
- Thanks for your opinion. I’ll think about it.
- Is this a good time for you?
- Would you like my thoughts?
- Why don’t we get the facts?
- I need your help. Can you please…
- Let’s wait on this until we have more information.
- What did you mean by that?
- I don’t like that, so why don’t we do this instead? (Note – personally I would cut off the “I don’t like that”.)
- I’m sorry you’re upset.
- Let me get back to you.
Their site has explanations for each one, although I’d suggest not getting too overanalytical or critical! Saying these things can go a long way toward showing some empathy for the other person. They can also buy you time to think of an appropriate response, which is often an issue for me.

Heh, I use those phrases frequently even though that’s the first time I’ve heard of that site. Personally my General Phrase to avoid awkward predicaments is “Fair Enough”.
Of course people who know me well usually recognise it as
“Yeah, I don’t really know what to say to that but I can understand why you did/say/think that.”
