Have I ever told you about my fascination with etiquette books? No, that’s not my collection pictured above, but I sure wish it was!
I love the way the rules of etiquette spell out for you very clearly how to handle every situation. It’s like being filled in on the secret rules of some secret society that I obviously was not born into.
Emily Post is one of the best-known authors and experts on etiquette and I’m glad to see that she’s getting in touch with younger readers through blogs and younger authors. Now you can subscribe to her blog, Emily Post’s Etiquette Daily, and receive her daily tips in your RSS reader.
Some of the tips fall into the “file away for future use” category, while some will make you look instantly more polished in your social and work life. I had never stopped to think about whom to name first when making introductions and had no idea it implied any kind of rank, but now I know.

Well, now I know for sure the reason why I liked you from day 1, because you are an *etiquette buff* like me:-) Seriously, I was raised by a very proper southern mother, and the rules of etiquette were not only a part of my daily life, but I welcomed the structure, order, and sense of it all with open arms!
Many females on the spectrum share this same etiquette fascination. In my experience I have found that females on the spectrum will typically either share our same interest in etiquette or abhor it — I haven’t found many who are tepid with regards to etiquette.
As a child I loved reading Emily Post…..I hung on every word she wrote! Needless to say, I made a very special southern mother quite proud during my *Emily Post Days* !

My stepmother is not a native English speaker, so sometimes she would say a word that I didn’t understand at all. There was one word she repeated daily from the time I was very young, and all I could gather was that it had something to do with manners and being ladylike. Often it was accompanied by a hard pinch.
It wasn’t until I went to a bookstore one day that I realized she was saying “etiquette”! When I tried to explain it to her, she said, “yes, what did you think I was saying?”
Moms!
