The Aspie Guide To: Job Interviews (Part 1 – Promptness)
Just before I started teaching in the classroom, I had a unique experience working on the opening of a new school. I did much of the administrative work as well as interviewing and hiring, which was very eye-opening and helped me see things from an employer’s point of view. Using what I learned from that job, I earned one of the top interview scores in the district where I eventually taught.
Promptness
- Your goal should not be to show up on time, it should be to show up at least 15 minutes early.
- If you’re not familiar with the route you have to take, practice it ahead of time. Make sure you’re aware of any sensory disturbances on the way that might throw you off.
- Being early gives you a chance to sit and regroup once you get there. Use the time to go over your notes.
- Put the company’s number into your phone in case you need directions or have an emergency en route and need to reschedule.
- Wear a watch. It saves you the time of fumbling for your phone plus it makes a good impression. Borrow one if you have to.
